Javelina Men Fall On Senior Day

Box Score KINGSVILLE, Texas -- The Texas A&M-Kingsville men's basketball team closed out the regular season on Saturday with four seniors – Rashad Basey, Mike Evans, Dwight Taylor and Daymon Warren – playing their final game on Kingsville Hampton Inn Court but came up short in a defensive battle with Angelo State 53-41.

The Javelinas finish the regular season with an 8-18 overall mark and a 3-11 Lone Star Conference mark and await the end of Saturday's games for their seed in next week's Lone Star Conference Championship at the Allen Event Center. The Rams enter next week's Lone Star Conference Championship with an 18-8 mark and 8-6 LSC mark.

The game was tight throughout the first 20 minutes with neither team leading by more than five until the final seven minutes when ASU went on a 9-3 run to close out the half. The visitors led 25-16 at the intermission. Kenny Williams and Bryan Hammond each had four points in the run.

After Jordan Jahr scored on a drive to the hoop to open the second half, the Rams went on a 7-1 run capped by a Chris Talkington 3-point basket for a 32-19 lead.

Kingsville pulled to within seven with 10:28 remaining when Warren hit 1-of-2 free throws to make it 38-31.

The Javelinas would get no closer as they struggled with their shooting. They finished the game 13-of-40 from the field including 3-of-18 from behind the arc for 32.5%. Kingsville also finished 12-of-20 at the foul line.

The Rams did not shoot much better hitting just 35.6% from the floor and going 19-of-34 from the charity stripe. They did manage to win the battle on the glass grabbing 46 total rebounds to Kingsville's 22. ASU had 21 offensive rebounds leading to a 14-0 advantage in second-chance points.

Basey and Ronald Scott each had nine points for Kingsville. Bryan Hammond had 16 points for the Rams followed by Kenny Williams with 14 and Reggie Sutton 10. Hammond added a game-high eight rebounds.
