Box Score CANYON, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville softball team dropped a pair of contests Saturday on the Woodward WT Invitational falling 15-5 to Adams State and 11-2 to Colorado State Pueblo.
The Javelinas are now 1-3 in the tournament and close out the 3-day event tomorrow against Colorado Mesa at 11 a.m.
In the first game against, Adams and Kingsville were tied at four early.
The Javelinas scored a run in the top of the first as
Valerie Ramirez reached on a 2-out single. She raced home on a double to right by
Adela Gomez.
The Grizzlies scored four times in the bottom of the first. Erica Haugum hit a 2-run home run with one out, while Krista Bedford finished the inning with a 2-run single.
Kingsville responded with three runs in the top of the second to tie the game.
Bailey Offill drove in
Myrissa Sanchez with double for the first run.
Carynn Gonzales followed with a 2-run double tying the game at four as
Erica Graham and Offill crossed the plate.
Adams broke the tie in the bottom of the second and led 9-4 heading into the sixth when Graham scored on a sacrifice fly by Offill. The Grizzlies would end the game in six innings with six runs in the bottom of the sixth. Jennie Archambault had a 3-run blast in the inning.
Kingsville finished the game with eight hits. Gonzales and Gomez each had a pair. Adams had 15 runs on 15 hits led by Carly DeLorenzo with three. Archambault had five RBI in the game and Haugum three.
Ariel Kellogg (3-3) suffered the loss tossing 5-1/3 innings in relief of
Kat Tapley, who allowed four runs in 1/3 of an inning. Kellogg permitted 11 runs with just six earned.
Kelsey Sellars (1-1) benefitted from the run support as she earned her first win.
In the game with the Thunderwolves (3-6), the Javelinas scored a run in the first as Offill led off with a single and later scored on a sac fly by Ramirez.
Kingsville would not score again until the fifth inning.
Pueblo scored four times in the first and twice in the second to seize control with a 6-1 lead.
In the top of the fifth, the Javelinas made it a 4-run game as Offill again tried to ignite the offense. She doubled to start the inning and scored on a single by Ramirez. The Hoggies stranded two on base in the inning.
The Thunderwolves sealed the win with five runs in the final two innings.
Offill had two of Kingsville's five hits in the game. She has now posted a hit in all 12 games, while Gonzales has reached safely in 11.
Ariel Lopez led Adams with three hits, while Lacey Chesse, Brittany Sty and Kennedy Smit had two RBI each in the contest.
Carlie Clark went the distance for Kingsville as she fell to 1-4. She allowed 11 runs with eight earned on 11 hits.
Samantha Avi was the winner for CSU-Pueblo. She allowed both runs with one earned in five innings of work.
