Box Score CANYON, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville softball team opened play in the Woodward WT Invitational on Friday splitting a pair of contests as the rallied to defeat Fort Lewis 7-5 before dropping an 11-2 decision in six innings to Metro State.

With the split the Javelinas are now 5-6 on the season. The tournament continues Saturday as Kingsville will play Adams State at 11 a.m. and Colorado State-Pueblo at 1 p.m. They will face Colorado Mesa at 11 a.m. on Sunday.

In their first game, the Javelinas found themselves down 4-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning before finally getting on the board as Erica Graham reached on an error and came around to score on a wild pitch.

Kingsville took the lead with six runs in the sixth inning. The Javelinas combined six hits with two Fort Lewis errors.

With one away, Myrissa Sanchez singled and moved to second on a ground ball. Sanchez stopped at third on a single to right by Courtnee White and crossed the plate on a single by Bailey Offill. White scored as Carynn Gonzales singled through the left side.

Offill then crossed the plate on the first error of the inning by the Skyhawks on a grounder by Valerie Ramirez. Adela Gomez lined a single to left-center field that plated Gonzales for the fifth run of the inning. Ramirez plated the final run when Taylor McGill reached on an error for a 7-4 lead.

Clark, who pitched the final 2-1/3 innings in relief allowed her only run in the top of the seventh with two outs but ended the threat there. She allowed the one run on three hits with two walks and a strikeout for her first collegiate win.

Ariel Kellogg started for the Javelinas pitching the first 3-1/3 innings. She allowed one run on four hits, but walked three before leaving. Kat Tapley tossed 1-1/3 innings and permitted three runs with two earned on two hits. She walked four batters.

Offill and White each had two hits as the Hoggies finished the opener with eight hits.

In the second game, the Hoggies struggled in several phases. Defensively, they committed four errors while the duo of Clark and Kellogg combined to walk six in six innings of work. The tandem allowed 11 runs with seven earned.

Offensively, the Javelinas had nine hits but managed just two runs in the fourth inning. Sanchez and Graham had back-to-back RBI doubles to plate the runs in the fourth. Graham finished with two hits.

Aubree Maul drove in three runs for the Roadrunners and Brittney Thomas two. Cassidy Smith claimed the complete-game win.
