Box Score KINGSVILLE, Texas – Trailing by seven points with just under 13 minutes to go, the Texas A&M-Kingsville men's basketball team warmed up from behind the 3-point line hitting 8-of-11 and overcame a late technical to down Texas A&M-Commerce 75-74 on Kingsville Hampton Inn Court.
With the win, the Javelinas, who matched their season high with 10 treys, moved to 3-7 in the Lone Star Conference snapping a 2-game losing streak and are now 8-14 on the season. Commerce drops to 14-8 and is 3-7 in the LSC.
The win avenges a 68-66 Javelina loss to the Lions in January in Commerce.
Irvin Hollinger and
Ronald Scott led the 3-point barrage combining for seven of the treys. Each finished with 17 points.
Down 45-38 with under 13 minutes left, Scott began a 13-2 run with a trey. After Hollinger followed suit with a three,
Adonis Bailey scored four straight points to give Kingsville its first lead of the game 48-47. Hollinger finished off the spurt with another long-range bucket.
Tied at 53 after a lay in by Commerce's Tyrie Wooten, Kingsville went on a 9-2 run capped by a Scott three with six minutes to go for a 62-55 advantage.
Kingsville extended its lead to nine with three minutes left by a
Ta'Quan McDew basket before the Lions made a final run in the last minute.
With the Lions down 72-65, Devondrick Walker was fouled behind the arc and drained three foul shots to make it a 4-point contest. After
Jordan Jahr went 1-of2 from the line, Walker hit a pair of free throws with 12 seconds left to make it a 73-70 game.
McDew seemingly iced the game by converting two foul shots with 10 seconds left to make the score 75-70. However, the junior was assessed a technical foul for alleging taunting an opponent after the second free throw.

With the possession following the technical, Commerce's De'Andre Carson attempted to tie the game with a three in the waning seconds but was off target. Christian Macauley scored on the rebound for the final margin.
Four Hoggies finished in double digits as the team shot 49% from the field. Aside from Hollinger and Scott each scoring 17,
Rashad Basey and Bailey each added 11. Kingsville finished with 12 steals including three apiece by
Daymon Warren, Bailey and Hollinger. The Javelinas had just nine turnovers while forcing 18.
Walker led the Lions with 17 points, while LaDon Carnegie had 11. Commerce hit 40.8% from the floor, but was 29-of-31 at the foul line to keep things close.
