Game Seven: @JavelinaFB Welcomes Rams on Kleberg Bank Homecoming Night

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Javelina Stadium

KINGSVILLE, Texas (Football) – A long weekend full of festivities and reunions conclude with a pivotal Lone Star Conference battle on Saturday, Oct. 18 as Texas A&M University-Kingsville (1-5, 0-4 LSC) hosts Angelo State University (3-2, 2-2 LSC) in its Kleberg Bank Homecoming Game at 7 p.m. at Javelina Stadium. With a new leader at the helm, the Javelinas look to improve to 33-14 all-time against the Rams and 8-0 when hosting ASU in its annual homecoming game.

Appointed interim head coach for the remainder of the 2014 regular season on Monday evening, former Javelina offensive lineman and two-time All-American Jaime Martinez is confident his team has the necessary pieces in place to turn the ship around.

"Angelo State is a great team and they played (No. 23) A&M-Commerce down to the wire last week," Martinez said. "They are a very good team, but our guys will be prepared for a hard fought battle. We need to go out and play as a unit and be effective in all three facets, offensively, defensively and on special teams. We have a young group of guys, but I guarantee that we will go out and play hard for 60 minutes. We will hold each other accountable and do everything that we can to right this thing."

Led by preseason LSC Player of the Year Kyle Washington, the Rams have one of the most potent offensive attacks nationally, averaging 485.4 yards per game. Washington has accounted for 16 touchdowns (12 passing) and leads the team in both passing yards (1,286) and rushing (451 yards).

For the Javelinas, Shawn Vasquez comes off a career game at Tarleton State in which he rushed for 103 yards, the third time a TAMUK player surpasses the 100-yard plateau in a single game this season. Jordan Thomas and Patrick LaFleur have 17 receptions apiece and three combined touchdowns. Defensively, captain Trevor Pesek leads the team with 54 total tackles and freshman Braedon Robinson has totaled 9.5 tackles for a loss.

THE GAME
The Javelinas are looking for their first Lone Star Conference win of the season while the Rams are coming off a 41-40 heartbreaking loss to No. 23 A&M-Commerce.

SERIES HISTORY
The Javelinas are 32-14 all-time against the Rams, 15-9 at Javelina Stadium. When hosting the Rams on Homecoming, the Hogs are a perfect 7-0.

ONCE A HOG, ALWAYS A HOG
Interim head coach Jaime Martinez is in his 10th season as the offensive lines coach and recruiting coordinator. Influential in the growth of Christian Garcia, the sophomore earned All-Lone Star Conference honors following the 2013 campaign. Martinez, a Beeville native, was a standout lineman for the Javelinas from 1992-95, earning two all-conference selections. A two-time All-American, the Javelinas won four LSC Championships in Martinez's tenure, going 21-0 in conference play and posting a 39-13 overall record. Kingsville advanced to the NCAA Division II semifinals three times and the NCAA Division II National Championship in 1993.

PERFECTION ON HOMECOMING
Texas A&M University-Kingsville is a perfect 7-0 against Angelo State when the Rams visit Javelina Stadium on Homecoming. Since its first homecoming game in 1931, the Javelinas are 64-14-1.
