Javelinas Look To Build On Momentum At Midwestern State

KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville men's basketball team will look to build upon the momentum gained from Wednesday's last second victory over Cameron when it travels to Midwestern State on Saturday for a 6 p.m. contest at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

With Irvin Hollinger's bucket with two seconds left giving the Hoggies their first lead and win the game 59-57 over the Aggies, the Javelinas picked up their first Lone Star Conference win of the season to move to 1-4 in league play. They are 6-11 overall.

Ronald Scott led the Javelinas with 24 points tying his best performance as a Javelina. Adonis Bailey and Hollinger each added 10 points for Kingsville, which played without leading scorer Rashad Basey.

After Basey's 18.1 points a game, Scott is second with 11.1 points a game and has a team-best 4.1 assists. Jordan Jahr is third in scoring with 10.1 points and is pulling down a team leading 6.1 rebounds. Ta'Quan McDew is just shy of double digits with 9.7 points. In LSC play, Scott is averaging 12.8 points while Hollinger is scoring 11.6.

Midwestern State is coming off an 83-68 loss at Angelo State on Wednesday despite a season-best 17 points from Eddie D'Haiti. The loss was the second-straight defeat for the Mustangs who moved to 3-2 in the LSC and 11-6 overall.

MSU is led by Monzaigo Williams. Williams leads the Mustangs ranking fourth in the LSC in scoring (16.6 ppg), assists per game (4.3) and fourth in 3-pointers made per game (2.1). He is second in steals per game (1.8) and 3-point field goal percentage (.449). Xavier Blackburn is averaging 12.6 points and 9.0 rebounds a game in LSC play. DeJuan Plummer is scoring 11.9 points a game.

When the teams meet Saturday, the Javelinas will be looking to snap another streak as they have lost 11 straight games to MSU. Kingsville last won against Midwestern on Feb. 16, 2008. The Mustangs lead the series 27-11.
