Javelinas Fall In Pair Of Matches On First Day Of Alaska Tournament

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The Texas A&M-Kingsville volleyball team opened the 2013 campaign with a pair of losses in the SpringHill Suites Invitational at Alaska-Anchorage on Friday.
The Javelinas faced Augustana in their first match falling 25-17, 25-13, and 25-22. Kingsville was out-hit .402 to .150 in the opener. Dedra Brown and Stephanie Johns each had a team-best eight kills in the opener, with Johns hitting .385. Sarah Fountain added 24 assists and Giselle Carreon led the way with nine digs.
Augustana was led by the tandem of Courtney Ysker and Taylor Hrdlichka. Ysker had a match-best 15 kills, while Hrdlichka had 11 kills with a .714 hitting percentage. Marissa Johnson had a 43 assists.
In the second match of the day for the Javelinas, the host Seawolves claimed a 25-18, 25-22, 25-14 win. Kingsville hit just .056 in the match, while UAA hit .194. Kelsey Washington led the way with seven kills for Kingsville with 10 digs and two service aces. Mariah Carlin had a team-high 11 digs in her second collegiate match. Fountain had 19 assists.
For the Seawolves, Julia Mackey had a match-high eight kills, while Quinn Barker had 15 digs. Siobhan Johansen had 15 assists and Morgan Hooe 11. UAA had six aces in the match with Brooke Pottle and Katelynn Zanders each posting two.
The Javelinas finish the tournament with matches against Notre Dame de Namur and Claflin at 12:30 p.m. and 5 p.m., respectively. Both times are Alaskan Daylight Time.
