Women’s Tennis Picks Up Pair Of Wins

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas- The Texas A&M-Kingsville women’s tennis team had one of the program’s most successful days in the program’s brief history earning wins over Texas-Permain Basin, 5-4, and Our Lady of the Lake, 7-2.
With the two wins, the Javelinas are now 3-8 on the season.
In the first match of the day, the Javelinas won singles matches at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 singles and the top two flights in doubles. Mariaxi Herrera won at No. 1 in three sets over Alehanna Kehr-Gomez coming back from a set down 4-6, 6-2, and 10-4. Marija Dimitrovska and Tabata Lua Cervantes won at No. 2 and No. 3. Each won their opening set at 7-5, before closing out the matches with 6-0 and 6-1 wins in the second set, respectively.
In doubles, Dimitrovska and Herrera won at No. 1 doubles over Olivia Baltazar and Rafaela Chavez 8-6. Victoria Rios teamed with Cervantes at No. 2 doubles 8-4 over Casey Acosta and Ynez Sanchez.
The Javelinas had an easier time in their second match powering past the Saints. Herrera, Dimitrovska, Cervantes and Ashton Garcia each won 6-0, 6-0 over their opponents. Victoria Rios won 6-1, 6-2.
Kingsville also won at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. The duo Dimitrovska and Herrera and tandem of Cervantes and Rios claimed 8-0 victories. Dimitrovska and Herrera are now 6-5 at the top flight in doubles.
