KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville women’s tennis team was handed an 8-1 loss on Wednesday by Southern Nazarene.
Mariaxi Herrera and Marija Dimitrovska claimed their second-straight win at No. 1 doubles with an 8-4 win over Masha Andrianova and Marina Shipilova. Tabata Lua Cervantes and Victoria Rios fell 8-3 at No. 2 doubles, and Alexandra Carrillo and Ashton Garcia dropped an 8-2 decision.
In singles, Dimitrovska and Cervantes battled in tough matches at No. 2 and No. 3 singles. Dimitrovska lost 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) at No. 2 to Natalia Moreno, while Cervantes fell 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) Deisi Bolivar. Andrianova defeated Kingsville’s Herrera 6-0, 6-2 in the top-flight match. At No. 4 singles, Rios lost 6-1, 6-0 to Shipolova. Karina Kotova won 6-0, 6-1 over Garcia. Carrillo was downed 6-0, 6-2 by Payton Bergmann.
The Javelinas host Texas Lutheran at 4 p.m. on Sunday.
