DENTON, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville women’s basketball team forced a season-high 30 turnovers and was 18-of-20 from the foul line as the Javelinas knocked off Texas Woman’s University 59-49 on Saturday in Denton.
Ashley Viera led the way for the Javelinas (5-15, 3-11) with 14 points including 9-of-10 from the foul line. Seniors Brandi Clark and Breanna Gonzalez added eight points apiece for the Javelinas. Kingsville had 18 steals in the contest with five by Gonzalez and four by Sheana Jones. 
Kingsville trailed 9-5 early before taking control of the game 21-2 run. With the run, Kingsville built 26-11 run.
During the decisive run six Javelinas scored. Michelle Wagner hit a pair of threes, and Gonzalez had a personal 5-0 run. Rita Banaszczak had four points, while Madara Gulbe, Ruby Robertson and Clark each had two points.
Kingsville would lead 28-18 at the break.
In the second half, the Pioneers used an 11-2 run to cut their deficit to four points, 39-35. However, Kingsville answered with an 8-0 to seize back the momentum.
Viera sealed the win by hitting eight free throws in the final 72 seconds.
No Pioneers reached double digits in the game.
The Javelinas return home on Wednesday to host Tarleton State at 6 p.m. on Think Pink night at Kingsville Hampton Inn Court. The men play the second game at 8 p.m.
