Javelina Men’s Basketball Claims 79-67 Win

Box Score KERRVILLE, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville men's basketball team traveled to Schreiner Saturday in its first game after a week off for exams and picked up its fourth win of the season 79-67.

Jordan Jahr led the Javelinas (4-7) with a 24 points and was solid from the field and foul line. The junior hit 3-of-4 3-point baskets and was 9-of-9 from the free-throw line. As a team, Kingsville was 30-of-33 from the foul line hitting 19-of-20 in the second half.

Three other Javelinas added double digits as they led much of the game trailing only by three with six minutes remaining in the first half. They also trailed by a point just over four minutes into the second half.

Ronald Scott came off the bench to finish with 14 points including a perfect 6-of-6 performance at the foul line and a team-high six assists. Rashad Basey and Dwight Taylor had 13 points apiece.

The game remained tight until an 8-0 run by the Javelinas with eight minutes to go. Leading 58-55, Jahr followed a pair of foul shots with a 3-point bucket. Basey closed out the run by converting an old-fashioned 3-point play to make it an 11-point Kingsville lead 66-55 with 5:45 left.

The hosts could get no closer than nine points the remainder of the game.

AJ Myres led the Mountaineers (2-6) with 22 points. Stevan Guerrero added 14.

The Javelinas close out the 2013 portion of their schedule at home on Wednesday as they host Texas Lutheran at 7 p.m. on Kingsville Hampton Inn Court.
