Javelina Volleyball Closes Out Home Portion Of Season

KINGSVILLE, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville volleyball team closes out the home portion of its 2013 season this Friday and Saturday with a pair of crucial Lone Star Conference matches on Kingsville Hampton Inn Court. The Hoggies will square off with Texas A&M-Commerce on Friday night at 7 p.m. with Saturday's Senior Day match with Texas Woman's at 1 p.m.
The Javelinas enter with a 14-15 overall record and are 5-7 in the LSC with two weeks remaining. Friday night's opponent Commerce is 6-6 in conference action and 18-7 overall. TWU is 18-8 on the year and 9-4 in the league.
The meeting is the second of the year for the Javelinas against both teams. In road matches earlier this season, Kingsville defeated both 3-2 after dropping the opening set in both. On the year, the Javelinas are 5-2 in 5-set matches.
Saturday's match will be the final home game for Dedra Brown. Brown, the lone senior on the Javelinas, is second on the team with 301 kills and is averaging 2.79 kills a set just behind Kelsey Washington. Washington, who has 15 double-doubles is first with 311 kills and 2.85 kills a set. The junior is first with 364 digs on the year and second with 3.34 a set. Brittany Gutierrez has 320 digs and 3.44 digs a set.
