Box Score ODESSA, Texas – A week after the two teams combined to put 195 points on the board on Kingsville Hampton Inn Court, the Texas A&M-Kingsville and UTPB met in a rematch that was much more defensive oriented. The Falcons still had the Javelinas numbers holding on for a 69-59 win
Rashad Basey and
Ta'Quan McDew led the way for the Javelinas with 19 and 13 points, respectively. The Javelinas however struggled with their shot hitting 34.9% from the floor and hit just 2-of-18 3-point shots.
Meanwhile, UTPB hit 55.6% of its shots from the floor in the second half to rally from eight points down with over 17 minutes left.
Kingsville's Basey scored on a drive basket with 17:20 left making the score 36-28. The Falcons answered with a 19-5 run capped by a 3-point play by Keith Martin on a dunk and free throw to lead 47-41 with 9:36 to go.
The Javelinas could get no closer than four the remainder of the game.
Thomas Feeney led the visitors with 18 points and seven assists, while Keith Martin had a double-double. He finished with 16 points and 14 boards. Phadarius Thomas had 13 points.
Kingsville nearly had a double-double for the first time this season.
Jordan Jahr, who scored nine points, finished with a career-high 16 rebounds. It was the most rebounds by a Javelina since Robert Hamilton had 17 against Eastern New Mexico on Jan. 29, 2005.
The Javelina men return to Kingsville to host St. Mary's on Saturday at 7 p.m.
