Box Score CANYON, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville volleyball team had its season come to an end Thursday afternoon in the opening round of the Lone Star Conference Championship at the West Texas A&M Fieldhouse as the Javelinas were swept 3-0 (25-23, 25-12, 25-19) by Texas Woman's.
The loss ends the Javelina season with a 15-19 mark, while the second-seeded Pioneers move to 22-9 on the year. The two teams split during the regular season.
The first game was tight. The Javelinas hit .270 in the opening set and TWU .275 and neither side led by more than five points.
Kingsville battled back from a 15-9 deficit to tie the game at 22.
The Javelinas started to chip their way back in with three kills in row by
Dedra Brown,
Stephanie Johns, and
Shae Smith.
Down 19-15 after a kill by Hillary Shaffer, the Hoggies posted back-to-back blocks. The first was by the duo of
Kelsey Washington and
Stephanie Johns, while
Kalani Giddens and
Kayla McGlathery combined on the second to make it 19-17.
Kingsville tied the set at 22 with Johns kill but could not pull out the set.
The Javelinas were unable to maintain their offensive flow in the final two sets. They hit -.200 in falling 25-12 in the second frame and hit an even .000 in the third set.
Brown led the Javelinas with seven kills in her final match. Washington, who was selected first-team All-LSC the night before had just five kills and seven digs.
Giselle Carreon had a double-double with 14 assists and 10 digs.
Marcela Alves led TWU with 13 kills, while Morgan Wilson had 20 digs.
