Men's Basketball Earns First Win Of 2013-14

Box Score PUEBLO, Colo. – Four players scored in double figures as the Texas A&M-Kingsville men's basketball team picked up a 90-79 win over Colorado State-Pueblo Saturday night in the Al Kaly Classic.
The 90 points were the most by the Javelinas in regulation since scoring 107 against St. Edward's in 2011 on Kingsville Hampton Inn Court. The high last season was 85 points against Bacone.
Rashad Basey scored 20 points to lead the way earning all-tournament honors as Kingsville moved to 1-2 on the season. Newcomers Jordan Jahr, Ronald Scott and Ta'Quan McDew also reached double figures. Jahr had 18, Scott 14 and McDew 12.
Matt Rosenblaum led the visitors with 17 points, while Nate Tinger added 16. Jed Knafelc 13 and Wendell Lee 10.
The Javelinas led the entire match except at 10-9 four minutes into the game. They would go on to lead by as many as 15 points in the first half. Kingsville used a 22-8 run to seemingly seize control in the first half.
The Thunderwolves did string together a trio of 3-point baskets in the second half to tie the game at 35 with 17:03 left. However, Basey scored five points in a 2-minute stretch as the Hoggies took the lead for good with a 10-0 run.
Pueblo would twice pull to within four but would be spurned by the Javelinas each time.
The Hoggies shot a solid 29-of-58 from the floor for 50% including 63% in the second half. They did most of the damage in the paint outscoring the hosts 34-20 and out-rebounding CSU-Pueblo 42-35.
The Javelinas travel to St. Edward's on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. tilt. They return home over the weekend to host the Emerald Beach Hotel Javelina Classic on Friday and Saturday. The games are at 2:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. each day.
