Box Score SAN ANTONIO, Texas – In a rare Thursday night contest, the Texas A&M-Kingsville fell just short in a 5-set marathon match to Our Lady of the Lake 3-2 (25-27, 25-21, 25-20, 21-25, 15-17 in San Antonio.
The loss evens the Javelina record at 13-13 and was just their second loss of the season in five sets. The Hoggies are now 5-2 in 5-set matches. OLLU is now 13-10 overall on the year.
In the decisive fifth set, the score was tight throughout with neither team holding more than a 2-point advantage. The Javelinas were on the verge of winning as
Dedra Brown game them a 14-12 match point on a
Sarah Fountain assist.
After an attack error by
Shae Smith saved one match point for the hosts, Bryttany Willoughby tied the match with a service ace. The Saints took a 15-14 lead on a kill by Alysha Blanco. The Hoggies stayed alive as Fountain again found Brown for a kill to knot the score at 15.
The Saints ended the match by scoring the next two points. After a kill by Alexandra Wilborn, an attack error by
Kelsey Washington on match point ended the contest.
For the match, Washington led the Javelinas with 14 kills and added 11 digs for her 14
th double-double of the season.
Kayla McGlathery also had a solid match finishing with 12 kills and six blocks, while Brown added 10 kills. Aside from Washington, three others had double-digit digs.
Mariah Carlin led the way with 19, while
Giselle Carreon had 11 and Fountain 10. Fountain and Carreon each had double-doubles with 28 and 19 assists, respectively.
Kendall Groff led the hosts with 17 kills, while Gloriana Villarreal had 15 and Blanco added 12. Wilborn led the Saints with 18 digs.
