SAN ANGELO, Texas – The Texas A&M-Kingsville women’s basketball program suffered another conference loss to Angelo State, 65-51, at the Junell Center Wednesday night.
This game marks the tenth consecutive loss for the Javelinas. The last time the Javelinas lost 10 games in a row was last year during the same months, November to January. Last year, the team turned it around the next game by defeating Abilene Christian, 75-71, at home on Jan. 7.
Kingsville now stands 3-11 overall and 1-7 in conference play while the Belles are 7-7 overall, 4-4 in the Lone Star Conference.
Angelo took an early lead in the first half, outscoring the Javelinas 16-2 in the first eight minutes of the game. The Javelinas were off target several times, missing 25 points. The Belles took their momentum through intermission and didn’t stop through the end of the game.
Freshman Ashley Viera scored in double figures for the third time this season. She led the Javelinas with 15 points and three steals. Junior transfer Madara Gulbe followed with eight points and three Javelinas scored six points each.
Two Belles scored in double figures. Lauren Holt led Angelo with 19 points followed by Haylee Oliver, the Belles leading scorer, with 12 points.
The Javelinas are back on the court Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. as they face Abilene Christian.
