Javs Lose on Dig Pink Night

  KINGSVILLE, TEXAS – The Texas A&M-Kingsville volleyball team struggled all night long in their loss to Lone Star Conference rival Southeastern Oklahoma on Thursday night 25-19, 25-20, 25-20 at Kingsville Hampton Inn Court. (box score)

The loss snapped a two match conference winning streak for the Javelinas (7-9, 3-3) and came on Dig Pink Night, an event designed to help raise money for Breast Cancer Research.

The Savage Storm (5-10, 2-3) got off to a great start scoring eight of the first nine points of the match. The Hoggies closed to within 21-17, but were unable to get any closer.

The second set began the same way as the first set with the Storm scoring the first six points. This time, the Javelinas quickly responded and took a 9-8 lead after Virginia Hernandez (Katy/Katy HS) served up five straight points. The set went back and forth and stood at 21-20 Southeastern when the Savage Storm scored the final four points of the set.

In the third set, the Storm once again took an early lead only to see the Hoggies fire back to tie the score at 15-15 after a block by Laura Macek (Wilson, KS/Ellsworth HS). The Storm quickly took a 20-16 lead before the Hoggies scored three straight to make it 20-19. Unfortunately, the Storm scored five of the next six points to win the match.

The Javelinas were plagued by attack errors throughout the match. They had 27 errors and posted a .067 attack. Lauryn Lozano (San Antonio/Smithson Valley HS) posted a double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs. Macek added five kills, a .250 attack and team high three blocks. Hernandez led the team with 19 digs while Amanda Yeager (Brenham/Brenham HS) added 16 assists.

The Savage Storm was led by Lunden Azuara who had 12 kills, seven digs, three blocks and a .346 attack. Brittany McDonald and Jordan Parks combined for 14 kills, a .538 attack and nine blocks. Chelsea White had 28 assists while Raelynn Beaty led all players with 22 digs. The team posted a .214 attack on the evening.

The Javelinas are back in action on Saturday at 2 p.m. against East Central.
