Kingsville, TX – The Javelinas on the road for this weekend, with winning streak on the line
The Javelinas will be traveling up north this weekend going to Austin to face St. Edwards, then will be heading to San Antonio for another meeting against St. Mary's, the first of which the Javelinas dropped in five. St. Mary's is sitting at 9-5 on the season, and seventh in the conference. St. Edward's is at 7-7 on the year and 2-2 in the LSC. Both look to be tough matchups as the Hilltoppers are in the upper half in kills, meanwhile the Rattlers are in the upper half in blocks. This will be a test for both sides of the ball, as the Javelinas rank 6
th for both kills and blocks. This weekend will feature the top three setters in the Lone Star Conference with Althea Morris of St. Edward's, Haleigh Wilk of St. Mary's, and
Alayna Guerrero of Texas A&M - Kingsville
St. Edward's
The Hilltoppers rank near the middle of the conference in almost every statistical category there is, but they shine at 5
th for kills at 12.92/s, which puts them one spot above A&M – Kingsville. They are being led by Kelli Fording, a senior outside hitter, as she has acquired the top spot with 168 and stands at 4
th with 3.57/s. Their steer Althea Morris currently leads the Lone Star Conference with 10.32 assists/s. St. Edward's has had an up-and-down season where they have not won or lost more than two matches in a row, they are sitting at 1-1 at home this with a sweep over UTPB and a four-set loss to Angelo St.
St. Mary's (TX)
The Rattlers have been on tear offensively as Laurene Robinson holds the Conferences most kills at 269, 4.41/s, as well as hitting 2
nd best in the Lone Star at .364. She is helped by Haleigh Wilk who currently lands at second for assists with 555 on the year and good for 9.10/s. The Rattlers come in at spot two for points on the year at 990 which puts them one behind first place, The Javelinas, this paired with their league leading Aces means they can score in bunches. The last time these two teams faced off it went all five with the Javelinas falling 7-15 in set 5. The Javelinas will look for revenge when they travel to San Antonio on Saturday.
