Kingsville - For the first time in program history, Texas A&M-Kingsville welcomes UT-Dallas into Nolan Ryan field for an important four-game series late in the Lone Star Conference schedule beginning on Friday.
With just 12 games to go, the Javelinas still find themselves positioned for a top-four seed in the Lone Star Conference tournament sitting just two games back from that spot. The road ahead is a challenging one however, as the Javelinas face off against three of the top six teams in the LSC standings.
The path to the conference tournament for the Javelinas begins with the Comets, who have been a revelation in the Lone Star Conference this season. Boasting a 27-11 record with series wins over LSC stalwarts Angelo State and West Texas A&M, UT-Dallas is still in play for the top spot in the LSc standing despite not being eligible for postseason play due to DIII to DII transition rules.
This weekend's four-game series features two of the best offenses in the conference. UT-Dallas leads the LSC with a .334 batting average while the Javelinas are right behind them with a .327 batting average.
Nick Reyes leads the charge for the Hogs, ranking seventh in the LSc with a .397 batting average.
The calling card for the Javelinas this season however has been the pitching, specifically ringing batters up with strikeouts. Texas A&M-Kingsville leads the Lone Star Conference and the South-Central region with 334 total strikeouts, good for fourth in the entire country.
Garrett Nail has been the driving force of this effort, racking up 75 strikeouts through 49.0 innings pitched. That mark leads the LSC and is the second-most strikeouts in DII this season.
First pitch for the series is set for 6:00 pm on Friday from Nolan Ryan Field. Fans of the Javelinas can watch the game on FloCollege or follow the action at JavelinaBSB on X.
