Austin, TX - Texas A&M-Kingsville dropped its series to St. Edwards after falling 6-0 Saturday from Lucian-Hamilton Field.
The Javelinas (22-23, 22-23 LSC) were kept off the scoreboard for the first time all season despite knocking six base hits in the contest. The Hilltoppers (27-17, 27-17) meanwhile registered double-digit hits and jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first two innings which proved to be more than enough in the game.
A pair of Javelinas saw action on the mound with
Tyler Schumann getting the start. The redshirt-sophomore finished with six innings of work and registered his 60th strikeout of the season. Schumann was relieved by true-freshman
Ethan Ortega, who racked up four K's in the contest.
The Javelinas had their chances to cut into the early lead that the Hilltoppers built,
Joshua Prado and
Nathan Gamez both reached safely after a Hilltopper error and a single with no outs, however three-consecutive outs would end that opportunity for the Javelinas.
That would prove to be the final real opportunity that Javelinas had to get a score on the board, as no Javelinas would get into scoring position after the fifth. The Javelinas struggled to get runners advanced in general, batting 1-16 with runners on base in the game.
Texas A&M-Kingsville will take on St. Edward's in the series finale Sunday at 1:00 pm. Fans of the Javelinas can watch the game on FloCollege or follow the action at JavelinaBSB on X.
