Austin, TX - Texas A&M-Kingsville dropped both games in double-header action to St. Edward's University Friday from Lucian-Hamilton Field.
The Javelinas (22-22) plated just a pair of runs combined across the set of games, dropping them both via 11-1 and 2-1 decisions to the Hilltoppers (26-17, 26-17 LSC). This marks the third consecutive series that the Javelinas have dropped the first two games and the fourth consecutive series that the Javelinas will wither split or outright lose
Game 1:Â
The series kicked off in disastrous fashion for the Javelinas, as the Hilltoppers jumped out to a big lead in the bottom of the first inning. A pair of homers followed by an RBI-single and an RBI-walk put the Javelinas in a 6-0 hole before the heart of the lineup ever came up to bat.
A pair of singles from
Cade Minus and
Landon Salinas got two aboard for the Javelians in the second inning, and a
Nathan Gamez walk loaded up the Hogs who were desperate to respond to SEU.
Travis Vlasek drove in Minus to get the first run, but it cost the Javelinas a precious out to put two outs on the board. St. Edward's would end the soon thereafter and answer with three runs in the bottom of the second to all but put game one out of reach.
Game 2:
Junior righty
Brian Buchanan would get called to the mound to start in the second game of the double-header. The Kingsville, Texas, native threw an absolute gem of a game, going all six innings with five K's. He would however give up a costly two-run homer run in the bottom of the third that broke the 0-0 tie through three innings as the Hogs found themselves down early again.
Texas A&M-Kingsville responded in the top of the fourth however, as a leadoff walk from
Nick Reyes and another single from Minus put runners on the corners for the Hogs with one out.
Easton Hewitt then offered a bunt on the first-base line and beat out the tag to score a run and cut it to a one-run lead. The Hogs could not capitalize on the moment any further as the game remained deadlocked at a one-run difference.Â
The Javelinas had an opportunity to tie the contest in the sixth after
Jayden Martinez led the inning off with a single.
Cian Garza, pinch running for Martinez, then got himself in scoring position with a stolen base, however the Javelinas just could not get the tying run across the board as they fell to the Hilltoppers in the double-header.
The Javelinas will look to get back on track in nine-inning action on Saturday. Fans of the Javelinas can watch the game on FloCollege or follow the action at JavelinaBSB on X.
