Austin, TX - Texas A&M-Kingsville travels to the state capital to take on St. Edward's University in an important late-season series beginning Friday from Lucian-Hamilton Field.
Due to potential inclement weather in the Austin area, the usual series schedule has been adjusted. The Javelinas and Hilltoppers will kick off the series with a double-header on Friday before playing the usual nine-inning games on Saturday and Sunday.
The Javelinas are still holding strong in the final spot of the conference tournament, however a strong weekend against the Hilltoppers could see the Hogs rise all the way up to the fifth spot in the conference depending on the results of other games in the conference. A pair of wins against St Edwards however would all but ensure the Javelinas will make their second consecutive conference tournament.
Strong pitching will be incumbent to slow down an explosive Hilltopper offense. St. Edward's currently holds the single-game high in the Lone Star Conference with 28 runs scored against Oklahoma Christian. As a unit however, the Javelina pitchers rank first in the LSC with 357 strikeouts, good for fifth in all of DII.
Young stars are beginning to emerge for the Javelinas in the lineup as well, as redshirt-freshmen
Cade Minus and
Jake Gann each had strong showings against UT Dallas. Minus racked up a two-hit, three-RBI game that included a two-run homer in a game-three victory over the Comets. Gann meanwhile notched his first multi-hit game of his career that also drove in a pair of runs in the final game of the series.
First pitch for the series against the Hilltoppers is set for 12:00 pm. Fans of the Javelinas can watch the game on FloCollege or follow the action at JavelinaBSB on X.
Quick Hitters:
- Nail continues to post historic numbers for the Javelinas, maining his position with the second most strikeouts in DII with 83.
- Nail is 17 K's away from posting just the fifth 100-strikeout season in Javelina history.
- Schumann is also quietly having an excellent season, currently sitting in a tie for the eighth highest winning percentage in decisions at .833.
- Senior outfielder
Nick Reyes racked up his fifth triple of the season, placing him in a four-way tie for first place.
- Should Reyes maintain his position atop the conference, it would be the second year where a Javelina topped the conference rankings in triples after
Maurice Martinez did so last last season.
