Kingsville - Joshua Endo was the hero of the day for Texas A&M-Kingsville hitting a walk-off single in extra innings to down Oklahoma Christian, 6-5, Thursday from Nolan Ryan Field.
After
Cash Benavidez and
Fisher Davis both got aboard with one out, Endo dropped a blooper into center field that gave pinch-runner
Cian Garza enough time to round the third base bag. A throw home by the Eagles (6-13, 6-13 LSC) put Garza in a pickle, but he was able to leg out the Eagle defender and give the Javelinas (13-6, 13-6 LSC) the win.
Endo's heroics were not just felt in extra innings, as his two-RBI single in the bottom of the eighth evened the game at five apiece after OC retook their lead. Today's contest marks the eleventh contest in which Endo has notched multiple hits and his fourth game with multiple RBI's.
The Eagles either held a lead or were in a tie game for a majority of the contest after scoring an early two runs in the first after getting a pitch from
Garrett Nail over the wall for a home run. Nail was effective after the first however, pitching one-run baseball for his next four innings of work while racking up another seven strikeouts bringing his season total to 40 K's.
Sawyer Smith and
Ethan Ortega also saw action on the mound in relief, with the duo combining for three innings of work and four strikeouts. The Javelinas tied the game up during the time that Smith was pitching, however the Eagles retook the lead in the seventh with a 5-3 score.
After Endo tied it up at five-all,
Tyler Schumann got the nod from the dugout to close out the contest. Schumann would pitch a pair of shut-out innings, surrendering no hits and just one walk while fanning three batters to earn the win in game one.
