Kingsville - After a dominant outing against Angelo State, redshirt-sophomore
Tyler Schumann was named the Lone Star Conference pitcher of the week the conference announced on Monday.
Schumann, the reigning freshman of the year, hurled 6.1 innings of scoreless, no-hitter baseball with nine strikeouts to lead the Javelinas to a game one victory over the Rams. Schumann's outing was a season-high by one out, and his nine strikeouts was two behind tying his season-high while placing him second in the LSC with 48 strikeouts to teammate
Garrett Nail.
His efforts paved the way for the Javelinas to break a long losing streak to Angelo State in dramatic fashion, as it took 14 innings for the Javelinas to take down the Rams in a 6-5 classic. Schumann's effort gave the Javelinas their first win in Foster Field since the 2022 season and their first win over the Rams since 2023.
The Fulshear, Texas, native became the first pitcher in the LSC this season to be named to multiple pitcher of the week awards after opening the season by taking home the honors. Schumann now has three pitcher of the week awards to his name after winning the award once during his freshman season.
Texas A&M-Kingsville takes on Texas A&M-International in a four-game series beginning on Thursday at Nolan Ryan Field. Fans of the Javelinas can watch the game on FloCollege or follow the action at JavelinBSB on X.
