Javelinas drop double-header Saturday to St Marys

San Antonio, TX - Texas A&M-Kingsville held late leads in both contests on double-header Saturday, but could not close out either game as they dropped the series against St. Mary's in Dickinson Stadium.

The Javelinas (15-10, 15-10 LSC) held a 6-2 lead through eight innings in game while while holding a 3-1 lead heading into the sixth in game two, however the Rattlers (18-7, 18-7 LSC) would mount comebacks in both contests to hand the Javelinas their second series loss of the season.

Game 1:
Zachary Wright would get called to start and he would throw an absolute gem of a game. The true-freshman righty tossed 4.1 innings while allowing just a single run to come across the plate. The bats would give him the run support he needed as well, kicking off the scoring in the fourth with an RBI-single from Javier Benavides.

Another run would come across the plate with Braden Duff making it a 2-0 game. St. Mary's evened up the score at two apiece to bring the contest into extra innings however. The Javelinas then threw what they thought was the knockout blow with a four-run eighth inning to put them ahead, but St. Mary answered right back with another four runs in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game. The game winning run would come in the ninth, as the Javelinas dropped the first game of the double-header.

Game 2:
The second game of the double-header featured another excellent pitching performance to begin the game, this time from James Placke. Placke went 5.2 innings while allowing just three runs through that amount of time. He would not get run support until the top of the sixth however when the Javelinas tied the game at one apiece with an RBI-double from Travis Vlasek. Easton Hewitt then brought another pair of runs across the board to take another late lead in the double-header.

The Rattlers once again however would not go away, as a pair of runs would come across the board for them in the sixth to even it up at 3-3. St Mary's would again bring in the game winning run the following inning, sinking the Javelinas chances of taking a game in the double-header.

Texas A&M-Kingsville will play the series finale Sunday at 1:00 pm. Fans of the Javelinas can watch the game on FloCollege or follow the action at JavelinaBSB on X.
