San Antonio, TX - Texas A&M-Kingsville dropped the first game of the series against St. Mary's, 11-1, Friday from Dickinson Stadium.
The Javelinas (15-8, 15-8 LSC) allowed 11Â runs on 12 hits to go with four walks to drop the opening contest of the series to St. Mary's with both teams knotted up in the standings. The Javelinas were able to rack up seven hits, but only cashed in one run as they fell in the opening game.
The Javelinas first got an opportunity to score with the game in a 0-0 tie after
Nathan Gamez and
Nick Reyes each grabbed singles in the second inning to put one in scoring position. The Javelinas were not able to cash that runner in, and the Ratters made them pay by scoring three runs in the third inning and never looking back from there.
Reyes would drive in the lone run for the Javelinas in the fourth after
Landon Salinas got plunked to lead off the inning. The Javelinas could not get anything else going in that inning however, as St. Mary added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth to take full control of the contest.
The difference in the contest was the Rattlers ability to get on base via walks and extra base hits, as a pair of doubles by the Rattlers eight-hole hitter gave and the five walks gave the Rattlers all the extra bases they needed to pour it on the Javelinas.
Double-header Saturday between the Javelinas and Rattlers is set to begin at 2:00 pm. Fans of the Javelinas can watch the game on FloCollege or follow that action at JavelinaBSB on X.
