Kingsville - Texas A&M-Kingsville could not hold on to a late lead as it fell in extra innings to Cameron, 7-9, Saturday during game two at Nolan Ryan Field.
The Javelinas (3-2, 3-2 LSC) held a four-run lead heading into the top of the eighth after plating a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh thanks to an Aggie (3-2, 3-2 LSC) fielding error. Cameron then seized all momentum from there, scoring six-unanswered runs from the eighth inning and evening up the series at one game apiece.Â
A handful of Hogs saw action on the mound today, with junior
James Placke getting the start and going 4.2 innings with three strikeouts. Placke would give up a homerun to Cameron that plated their first three runs of the game, however all runs would go unearned after a Javelina error extended the inning for the Aggies. Tyler Schuman,
Zachary Wright,
Xando Castillo and Brian Buchannan also saw action for the Javelinas out of the bullpen.
Game number two got off to about as good of a start for the Javelinas as they could have hoped for. Three runs crossed home plate in the bottom of the first after
Isaiah Aguilar and
Joshua Prado each notched RBIs to give the Javelinas an early lead. That lead was built upon in the fourth, as Prado brought in another run with a single into left field that made it four to nothing.Â
The aforementioned home run by the Aggies scored their first three runs of the contest, but the Javelinas still held their lead heading down the home stretch of the game.
Joshua Endo would notch a hit straight to the second baseman, which cause just enough commotion in the infield to bring in Prado to increase the lead for the Javelinas. A fielding error in the seventh from Cameron seemed to put the game out of each, as Aguilar and
Braden Duff both crossed home plate to make it a four-run game.Â
Cameron almost immediately made it a one-run game in the eighth, plating three runs off of a pair of passed balls and a wild pitch to make the score 7-6. Texas A&M-Kingsville still had a  chance to walk away in the ninth inning with a win, but a RBI-single from Cameron tied it up as the Javelinas could not get a runner across in the ninth.
Neither team would put a run on the board in the 10th as the score sat at 7-7 heading into the 11th inning. Cameron would get the action going first, scoring off of a wild pitch that was immediately followed by another run coming across off of a wild pitch to make it 9-7. The Javelinas had a chance to walk it off with two on board in the bottom of the eleventh, but Cameron iced out the Javelina batter to even up the series.
Texas A&M-Kingsville will face off against Cameron for the series finale Sunday at 1:00 pm from Nolan Ryan Field. Fans of the Javelinas can watch the game on FloCollege or follow the action at JavelinaBSB on X.
