Kingsville - Texas A&M-Kingsville will be at Nolan Ryan Field for its home opener as it takes on Cameron University in a three-game series beginning on Friday.
The Javelinas (2-1, 2-1 LSC) are coming off an opening weekend series win against Eastern New Mexico in which they would throttle the Greyhounds 18-3 in the final game to lock up the series. The Aggies (2-1, 2-1 LSC) meanwhile took home a series win of their own over Texas A&M-International, they would drop the final game 6-12 however after committing eight errors in that contest.
Fielding has been a key strength of the Javelinas comparatively, Â as they currently lead the conference with a 98.2 fielding percentage. The Javelinas also gave up the second-least runs in the conference on opening weekend, spearheaded by the efforts of
Tyler Schumann. The sophomore right-handed pitcher pitched five innings in game two, fanning a career-best 11 batters and allowing just five hits. For his efforts, Schumann was named LSC pitcher of the week and South-Central Region pitcher of the week by the National Baseball Writers Association.
The Javelinas also got welcome contributions for key bats in
Landon Salinas and
Fisher Davis. Salinas, who was making his return to the lineup after playing just 11 games last season, notched six hits on 10 AB's for a conference best .600 batting average. Davis meanwhile had a monster game three, notching three hits, a pair of doubles and four RBI's.
The bats will need to stay hot for the Javelians this series against the Cameron pitching staff. The Aggies have surrendered the least amount of walks through opening weekend with just eight walks surrendered. They have however surrendered 28 hits, just one behind the Javelinas at 29.Â
First pitch for Friday's game one contest is set for 3:00 pm from Nolan Ryan Field. Fans of the Javelinas can watch the game on FloCollege or follow the game at Javelina BSB on X.
