Kingsville - Redshirt-sophomore pitcher
Tyler Schumann was named the Lone Star Conference Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Schumann, a native of Fulshear, Texas, tossed five innings of one-run baseball in relief during game two of the series against Eastern New Mexico to help propel the Javelinas to their first win of the season. Schumann fanned 11 batters, a new career-high and scattered just five singles across his five innings of work.Â
The 11 batters Schumann struck out makes him the only pitcher in week one of the LSC regular season to notch double-digit strikeouts. His total count of K's is also tied for the third most over the last four years among Lsc pitchers. This is his second LSC Pitcher of the Week award, winning his first after tossing a complete game shutout in a win over Texas A&M-International last season.
Schumann's efforts helped the Javelinas secure a 6-2 victory over Eastern New Mexico in the second game of opening week for the Javelinas. Texas A&M-Kingsville was able to take the series win in the next game in a dominant 18-3 victory.
Texas A&M-Kingsville sets its sights on Cameron University for the home opener of the 2026 season beginning Friday at 3:00 pm. Fans of the Javelinas can watch on FloCollege or follow the game at JavelinaBSB on X.
