Alpine, TX - Texas A&M-Kingsville looks for a rebound performance as it takes on Sul Ross State at Kokernot Field in a four game series beginning on Friday.
The Javelinas (8-6, 8-6 LSC) are coming off a 1-3 series loss to No. 4 UT-Tyler, their first series loss of the season. Meanwhile, the Lobos (1-13, 1-13 LSC) are looking to get their season back on track after dropping nine in a row over the past three series.Â
A positive for the Javelinas from the last series was the play of the defense and especially the pitching staff. Texas A&M-Kingsville allowed just 16 runs over the four games, including shutting out UT-Tyler in game two of the series behind a marvelous 5.2 shutout innings from Wright. The pitching will need to stay hot against the Lobos this week, as Sul Ross has hit the third most home runs in the conference with 15.
The offense will need to get back into their groove after struggling last week. Texas A&M-Kingsville recorded five or more hits one time during the series, coming in a 4-5 loss in extra innings. The Javelinas will need sophomore infielder
Landon Salinas to continue his excellent season, notching a hit in every game this season and batting over .400 through 14 games.Â
While the Javelinas have yet to hit a home run this season, they have been producing more extra base hits compared to last season. Texas A&M-Kingsville is tied for second in the conference with five triples, with five different Javelina notching one triple. The Lobos have struggled giving up extra bases, surrendering 45 doubles and allowing opposing batters to hit .368 on the season.
Game one of the four game series between the Javelinas and the Lobos is set for a 2:00 pm first pitch. Fans of the Javelinas can watch the game on FloCollege or follow the action at JavelinaBSB on X.
