Tyler Schumann were named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association All-Region team, the association announced on Tuesday.
Martinez was named as the only catcher on the All-South-Central-Region Team after batting .341 with 14 RBI's across just 28 appearances. He also threw out 18 stolen base attempts with a 97.4-percent fielding percentage. Schumann meanwhile was named as an honorable mention to the All-Region team, posting a 5.63 ERA and 30 strikeouts across 30.2 innings of work. Schumann was named as the Lone Star Conference freshman of the year while also being named to the LSC's preseason pitcher of the year watch list. Martinez was named to the conference's player of the year watch list as well.
As a team, Texas A&M-Kingsville was slotted 10th in the NCBWA's South-Central regional ranking for the upcoming season, joining six other schools from the LSC to be named in the top ten for the rankings. The Javelinas were also picked to finish seventh in the Lone Star Conference preseason poll after finishing seventh last season and reaching the LSC Conference tournament. UT-Tyler was picked to finish atop the LSC and the South-Central region.
