Laredo, Tx - Texas A&M-Kingsville looks to avenge a heart-breaking loss to Texas A&M-International in a rematch on Saturday from the TAMIU Kinesiology and Convocation Building.
The Javelinas (7-8, 4-3 LSC) clung to a four-point lead with just 50 second left before an and-one plus a tip-in game-winner from the Dustdevils (6-10, 3-5 LSC) spoiled the Javelinas' day in Kingsville. Now, Texas A&M-Kingsville looks to break a two-game LSC losing streak as it travels down the road to Laredo to face off against TAMIU once more.
In the last matchup, the Javelinas got an all-time performance from
Allen Singleton. The League City, Texas, native scored 21 points in just 20 minutes while shooting 88 percent from the floor. Singleton tallied five made three's as well, the most by a Javelina this season. Singleton was not the only one to put up a monster game either, as senior guard
Nate Garcia posted a season-high 19 points and nine rebounds.Â
Texas A&M-Kingsville will need to find ways to slow down the front court of the Dustdevils. Texas A&M-International's Gauis Mervin M'Ella put up 29 points on 9-12 shooting from the floor including the game winning putback layup. The rotation of
Caleb Carr and
David Oriaku will need to play effective minutes to help slow down M'Ella.
The Javelinas were effective at getting out on the break against the Dustdevils however, scoring 16 points in fast-break opportunities compared to just two points for Texas A&M-International. And while the Javelinas did win the turnover battle, it was just a one-giveaway difference for the Javelinas while the Dustdevils scored one more point than the Javelinas off of said turnovers.
Tip-off for Saturday's contest is set for 3:00 pm from Laredo. Fans of the Javelinas can watch the game on FloCollege or follow the game at JavelinaMBB on X.
