Grueso Mosquera named LSC Field Athlete of the Year

Kingsville - Adding to an already impressive list of awards and accomplishments, senior thrower Ronald Grueso Mosquera was named the Lone Star Conference's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year.

Coming just one day after being named the South Central Region Field Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), the awards helps Grueso Mosquera end his collegiate career in an all-the-more-impressive fashion. After transferring in from Washington St. for his final year in the college ranks, his first and only year wearing the blue and gold was, undoubtedly, one of the best single throwing seasons in program history.

This year, Grueso Mosquera was, in addition to his new award, an individual National Champion, a National Runner Up, a three-time First Team All-American, and a four-time LSC Champ, a two-time LSC Men's Field Athlete of the Week, and the USTFCCCA South Central Field Athlete of the Year. At outdoor nationals, he became the first Javelina National Champ since 2018 by winning the shot put with an 18.92m throw, just one day after a 57.29m discus throw made him the National Runner Up in the event. During the indoor season, he was a two-time LSC Champ, winning the weight throw and the shot put on his way to the LSC Men's Outstanding Field Athlete award. He was an indoor First Team All-American in the shot put. At the outdoor Conference meet, he was, again, a two-time LSC Champ, winning the discus and the shot put. A few weeks later he finished as a First Team All-American in both events.
