Four Javelinas named to LSC Athletes to Watch List

Kingsville – The Lone Star Conference has recognized four Texas A&M-Kingsville track and field standouts for the 2026 Indoor Track & Field Preseason Athletes to watch list, announced Thursday afternoon.

Sophomore Oneika Brissett (women's track), junior Madison Ramos (women's field), graduate student Michael Samihamba (men's track), and senior Django Segovia (men's field) were selected to the list, each of whom are coming off of excellent 2025 seasons.

Brissett returns for her sophomore campaign after a sensational freshman season. The versatile sprinter earned First Team All-American honors and helped take home the LSC Title in the 4x400m relay during the 2025 season. Brissett was part of the record breaking relay that set a new school record in the event and ran the seventh-fastest time in D2 history. Representing her home country of Jamaica, she also earned a silver medal in the 4x400m relay at the Panamerican Championships this summer. Off the track, Brissett also distinguished herself academically, earning the prestigious USTFCCCA Academic Award.

Ramos, a high jumper entering her senior season, has been a consistent performer and record-holder for the Blue and Gold. She owns the school record in the indoor high jump after clearing 1.75m at the 2025 NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships, where she earned First Team All-American honors with an eighth place finish. At the 2025 LSC Indoor Championships, Ramos helped lead the women's team to its highest finish in program history, placing second in the high jump with a 1.70m clearance. Ramos is also a recipient of the USTFCCCA Academic Award and was named an NCAA Division II provisional indoor qualifier in 2025.

Samihamba, a sprinter specializing in the 400m and 4x400 relay, brings an impressive resume into his final collegiate season. The Dallas native earned First Team All-American honors during the 2025 season as part of the Javelinas historic 4x400 relay team that broke the school record while finishing third at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships for the program's best finish ever. As he transitions to the indoor season, Samihamba looks to translate that championship success to the boards and fill in on last year's record-breaking 4x400m indoor relay team.

Segovia, a senior pole vaulter enters his final season for the Javelinas. During the 2025 indoor season, Segovia earned Second Team All-American honors at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships with an 11th-place finish. At the 2025 LSC Indoor Championships, he placed third in the pole vault with a season-best clearance of 5.14m, which ranked as the 11th-best height in Division II that season. Beyond his athletic accomplishments, Segovia distinguished himself in the classroom as a USTFCCCA Academic Award winner.

As the Javelinas kick off the 2026 indoor season at Pittsburg State University today and tomorrow, these four athletes represent the program's commitment to excellence both on the track and in the classroom. The team will compete in the Boo Rogers Combined Events on Friday and Saturday followed by the Crimson and Gold Invite on Saturday.

With multiple All-Americans and multiple school record holders leading the way, Texas A&M-Kingsville track and field looks to build on its strong 2025 campaign that saw both squads finish as conference runners-up and send a record 16 athletes to the NCAA Championships.
