Kingsville - In the wake of a history-making season, senior thrower
Ronald Grueso Mosquera was named the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA)'s South Central Region Field Athlete of the Year.
Grueso Mosquera became the TAMUK track and field teams' first individual National Champion since 2018 when he won the men's shot put with a monstrous throw of 18.92m. That incredible performance came just one day after he finished as the National Runner in the men's discus.Â
That was, by all account, one of the best throwing weekends in Javelina history. It capped off his first and only year in the blue and gold, with which Grueso Mosquera left his fingerprints all over the Javelina record books, finishing as a four-time Lone Star Conference Champ, a three-time First Team All-American and, now, a National Champion.
It is the sixth time since the USTFCCCA began handing out the award in 2007 that a Javelina has brought it home, all of which have come since 2013.Â
