Kingsville - Senior
Vincent Sanchez hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Texas A&M-Kingsville a series win over No. 21 St. Edward's University on Saturday.
With one out and the bases loaded, Sanchez hit a high chopper to the Hilltoppers (32-18, 31-17 LSC) shortstop that hung in the air just long enough for
Easton Hewitt to turn on the afterburners and score the game-winning run. The walk-off single was part of a four-run bottom of the ninth for the Javelinas (26-20, 25-19), who earned a massive series win in the final weeks of the season.
The celebrations were not just at the end of the game, as the Hogs celebrated 10 seniors as part of the final home game of the 2025 season. The Javelinas celebrated
Zach Westbrook,
Kike Alvarado,
Jessie Moreno,
Ethan Campos,
Jake Thielen,
Jose Gonzalez,
Marco Martinez,
Ulises Quiroga,
Karson Shepherd, and the aforementioned Sanchez.
Saturday's get-away day looked dire for the Javelinas at the start, as the Hilltoppers scored four runs in the first three innings to put the Hogs down early.
Maurice Martinez got the Javelinas on the board in the fourth however, as his RBI-triple plated
Joshua Endo to cut the lead to three.
The Javelinas got another run on the board after
Jayden Martinez scored
Joshua Endo to cut the lead to two. SEU however plated a run in the seventh that was quickly answered by Jayden's SAC-RBI in the eighth as both teams headed into the final inning in a two-run game.
St. Edward's would get an insurance run in the top of the ninth to make it a three-run lead that the Javelinas needed to cut down in order to find a win. Maurice brought the first run in with a single into the left side that scored
Cian Garza, a passed ball scored
Joshua Endo and Hewitt scored Maurice with an RBI-double that set up Sanchez for his game winning single.
