Edmond, OK - Texas A&M-Kingsville picked up a pair of wins against Oklahoma Christian on Friday as part of a restructured four game series.
The Javelinas (15-9, 14-8 LSC) kicked the series off with a 6-5, come-from-behind victory in eight innings against the Eagles (5-13, 5-13 LSC). They then followed it up with a 9-7 victory in game two, marking their sixth win in a row.
Game one of the series started off well for the Javelinas, as
Maurice Martinez would clobber his first collegiate home run of his career over the right-center field to go up 1-0. The Eagles however would also benefit from the long ball, as across the next three innings they would hit three homeruns to go up 5-1.
With a stalling offense, the Javelinas needed to find some kind of spark, and they got just that with
Easton Hewitt. His second career RBI would come when the Hogs most needed it, bringing in two runs to get the Hogs within two.
Joshua Endo would bring it to a one run game, then Martinez would score the tying run to bring Texas A&M-Kingsville all the way back.
Tyler Schumann was called in to keep the lead, and he did just that, holding the Eagles to no runs in the bottom of the seventh. In extra innings, it would be the Javelinas who picked up their offense, loading the bases for
Jacob Cueva to bring in
Elijia West for the go-ahead run. Schumann only let a pair on base before dealing the final blow in game one.
In game two, the Javelinas would keep the bats hot with a three run second inning thanks to RBI's from
Fisher Davis and Endo to make it a 3-1 ball game.
Sergio Galvan Jr. and Martinez each added their own RBI's in the fourth to increase the Hogs lead to 5-1.
Oklahoma Christian brought it to a one-run game heading into the sixth, but the Hogs would get three more runs in the seventh thanks to a two-RBI single from Galvan. An insurance run from
Nick Reyes in the eighth made it a five run game, and after some late game dramatics in the ninth,
Niko Garcia checked in and got a save for the Javelinas.
