Edmond, OK - Texas A&M-Kingsville capped off their series sweep of Oklahoma Christian with a wild, 10-9, comeback in game four on Sunday at Dobson Field.
The Javelinas (17-9, 16-8 LSC) trailed 9-3 entering the fifth inning after the Eagles (5-15, 5-15 LSC) scored seven runs in the third and fourth inning. However,
Easton Hewitt's two-RBI day sparked the Javelina offense late before
Ulises Quiroga was called in to seal the deal.
This game was part of a double-header Sunday for the Javelinas due to weather that shuffled around Saturday's usual pair of 7-inning games. Texas A&M-Kingsville took game one of Sunday's double-header 12-4, earning the series sweep.Â
Hewitt's first RBI of game two came when the Hogs most needed to get their offense rolling, as his ball dropped into right center field, scoring
Damian Carreon.
Jayden Martinez would then shoot one into left field, scoring both Carreon and Hewitt to cut the lead to three.
In the seventh inning, singles from Carreon and Hewitt would score two more to cut the game to just a one-run lead for the Eagles. The baserunning for the Javelinas, which has been excellent all-year, kicked into full-throttle afterwards. Hewitt would steal second, then a throwing error from left field would give Hewitt enough time to get home and tie the game. Carreon got in on the action too, stealing third base during the chaos and getting himself home after an error from the catcher to retake the lead for the Javelinas.
Marco Martinez would replace
Tyler Schumann after Schumann went three innings with no runs given up. Martinez would strike out three before heading back to the bullpen in the ninth, where Quiroga would get called out to thwart the Eagles rally and end the series.
Game one of the double-header featured much less drama, but more dominance from the Javelinas. After both teams were knotted up at one run each, the bats for the Hogs came alive in the third. Six hits, including three doubles, powered a six run outburst from the Javelinas that gave them a dominant 7-1 lead.Â
Oklahoma Christian would get a run back themselves, but the Javelinas did not let them off the hook. Three straight walks for the Javelinas loaded the bases for
Maurice Martinez, who would reach first on an error from left field that cleared the bases and pushed him all the way to third.
Vincent Sanchez then rewarded the freshman by bringing him home with an RBI-single that made it 11-2.
Another run was brought in for the Javelinas after Hewitt's RBI got
Elijia West home.
Adam DeBoer was then called on with a 10-run lead to close the game out, and although he gave up two runs to Oklahoma Christian, it was not nearly enough as the Hogs dusted the Eagles in Edmond.
Texas A&M-Kingsville returns to Nolan Ryan field to take on St. Mary's University in a weekend series beginning Friday at 6:00 p.m. CST. Fans of the Javelinas can watch live on FloCollege or follow the game at JavelinaBSB on Twitter.
