Edmond, OK - Texas A&M-Kingsville makes their second trip up the Red River to take on Oklahoma Christian in a four game series this weekend.
The Javelinas (13-9, 12-8 LSC) are fresh off of another home sweep this season after taking down Sul Ross State at Nolan Ryan Field. Looking to build off of that momentum, the Javelinas now head to Dobson Field for an all-important Lone Star Conference matchup against the Eagles (5-11, 5-11 LSC).
Oklahoma Christian will also have positive momentum heading into the matchup with the Javelinas, as it won its series last week against Texas A&M-International. That series victory was the first of the season for the Eagles, as they dropped their three previous series to St. Mary's, Lubbock Christian and Angelo State respectively.Â
This weekend's series features two of the best pitchers in the LSC, the Eagles' Tristan Copeland and the Javelinas'
Ulises Quiroga. Both pitchers are currently at the 30-plus strikeout mark, however Quiroga boasts the better record of the two with a 3-1 record thus far this season. Quiroga has also been piling on the honors after a complete-game shutout performance against Sul Ross, winnings LSC pitcher of the week and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association south-central region pitcher of the week.
Another Javelinas who has had a meteoric rise this season has been
Maurice Martinez. A true-freshman from San Antonio, Texas, Martinez has risen from a back-end lineup hitter all the way to batting in the two-hole for the Javelinas against Sul Ross State. Martinez currently leads the Javelinas in batting average with a .370 average and is third on the team in OPS with a .920.
First pitch for game one of the series is set for 5:00 p.m. CST from Dobson Field. Fans of the Javelinas can watch on FloCollege or follow live coverage at JavelinaBSB on Twitter.
