Hogs drop series to Angelo State

Kingsville - Texas A&M-Kingsville dropped both double-header games two Angelo State to wrap up the series at Nolan Ryan Field on Monday.

The Javelinas (19-19, 18-18 LSC) fell to the Rams (28-6, 26-6 LSC) 3-4 and 2-9 to wrap up the series. The pair of losses now marks the Hogs' tenth straight loss and dropped Texas A&M-Kingsville back to .500 on the season.

Ulises Quiroga was given the start in game one of the series and pitched a gem of a game against the best offense in the conference. The UTSA transfer went four and a third innings with four K's. The offense was able to capitalize on the Rams inability to find the strike zone early, scoring three runs in the second with an RBI-walk from Joshua Endo, a SAC-RBI from Sergio Galvan Jr. and a HBP-RBI from Isaiah Aguilar.

That lead would gold for a majority of the game, however the Rams evened up the game in the top of the fifth at three apiece.Tyler Schuman would get called to close out the game, tossing 1.1 shutout innings before surrendering the go-ahead run in the seventh. The Hogs bats would go cold in the final frame, dropping game three to the Rams.

In the second game of the double-header, Karson Shepherd would get the call to start. The senior started off the game in dramatic fashion, getting out of an early jam in the first inning with two runners in scoring position.

A scoreless second innings from Shepherd kept the game at a 0-0 tie. Angelo State would get the first runner across however, plating three in the top of the third. Three more runs would come across the plate for the Rams in the top of the sixth, but an RBI-single from Javier Benavides got a run back for the hogs entering the seventh inning.

Two more runs for Angelo State would give them a cushion entering the final frame of the series. And while the Javelinas would get a run across the plate thanks to a wild pitch, it would be too little too late as the Rams took the series against the Javelinas.

Texas A&M-Kingsville travels about 40 minutes north to Corpus Christi for an exhibition game against the Corpus Christi Hooks. Fans of the Javelinas can watch on the Hooks' facebook page or follow the game at JavelinaBSB on Twitter.
