Lubbock, TX - Texas A&M-Kingsville could not avoid the sweep against Lubbock Christian University as it fell, 5-17, on Sunday.
The Javelinas (19-15, 18-14 LSC) scored five runs in the first three innings to take a 5-2 lead heading into the fourth inning. However, the Chaparrals (20-10, 19-9 LSC) unloaded 15 runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth inning to take down the Javelinas and take the series sweep.
Easton Hewitt got the scoring started for the Javelinas with an RBI that got
Maurice Martinez home after the freshman led the game off with a walk.
Daniel Cardona, who got his second start of the season for the Javelinas, kept the Chaps off the scoreboard in the bottom of the first as Texas A&M-Kingsville was off and running.
In the second inning, the Javelinas kept the offense going as an RBI from
Javier Benavides and an RBI-Triple from Martinez put the Hogs up 3-0. The Chaps answered back with two runs of their own, but the Javelinas still held the early advantage.
The early offense was still going for the Javelinas in the third inning, as it was
Vincent Sanchez and
Jacob Cueva who got the next two runs for the Javelinas with RBI-singles.
Ruben Rendon III was then called in for the bottom of the second and went four up, three down to keep the Hogs ahead by three.
Inning number four would be where the offense would go cold for the Hogs, as LCU kept the Javelinas off the scoreboard after a pair of singles from
Damian Carreon and
Isaiah Aguilar. It would be in the bottom of the fourth however, as the floodgates opened for the Chaps. Lubbock Christian scored five runs in the fourth, four runs in the fifth and six runs in the sixth and kept the Javelinas bats at bay to finish off the Hogs.
Texas A&M-Kingsville returns to Kingsville to take on last season's national-champion runner up Angelo State in a four game series at Nolan Ryan Field. Fans of the Javelinas can watch live on FloCollege or follow the game at JavelinaBSB on Twitter.
