Lubbock, TX - Texas A&M-Kingsville got a late rally going, but could not complete the comeback against Lubbock Christian University as it fell, 8-10, on Friday.
Sergio Galvan Jr. launch a three-run bomb into left field that brought home
Jayden Martinez and
Nick Reyes to cut the lead to just two runs, however the Javelinas (19-12, 18-11 LSC) could not keep the offensive momentum going as the Chaparrals (17-10, 15-9 LSC) got the final five outs and ended the game.
Lubbock Christian jumped on the Javelinas early in the game, scoring five runs in the first two innings while the Hogs could not get a run to home plate. Texas A&M-Kingsville got their offense rolling in the third, with a two-RBI single from
Isaiah Aguilar. Heading into the fifth, excellent pitching from
Zach Westbrook allowed the Hogs to get within two thanks to a
Jacob Cueva RBI to make it a 4-6 ball game. However the Chaps got insurance runs in the fifth and sixth to keep the Javelinas at bay.
The bats for the Javelinas were finally starting to unravel as the game went on, outhitting Lubbock Christian 13-10. However, the Chaps got extra bases off of their hits, notching five doubles and a triple to plate ten runs. This was the second time in as many games that the Javelinas allowed ten-or-more runs, something that they only did once in their previous 29 games.
Games two and three are set for Saturday at 2:00 p.m. CST. Fans of the Javelinas can watch live on FloCollege or follow the game at JavelinaBSB on Twitter.
