Kingsville - Texas A&M-Kingsville took game four from Sul Ross State, 12-9, sweeping the series Sunday at Nolan Ryan Field.
The Javelinas (13-9, 12-8 LSC) scored every which was this game, through wild pitches, stolen bases and the classic way of being batted in to stave off the Lobos (2-18, 2-18 LSC) offense enough to secure the sweep on get-away day.
Tyler Schumann (1-1) earned his first win of the season after going 3.1 innings with five strikeouts and one hit.
Sul Ross kicked the scoring off in the top of the second with an RBI single, however
Marco Martinez stopped the damage to just a single run in his first start of the season. The Javelinas then opened up the floodgates on the Lobos, scoring five runs in the second thanks to an bunt-turned-error from
Damian Carreon that scored two, Â a SAC RBI from
Cian Garza, a wild pitch that brought in another and a stolen home plate from
Joshua Endo.
Weather would begin to become a major factor in this game into the fourth inning, as the Javelina pitchers could not get settled with gusts as high as 31 MPH blowing against them. Four walks, one hit and a Javelina error brought in five runs for the Lobos as they took back the lead, 5-6.
Big gusts of wind did not affect just the Hogs however, as Sul Ross State plated three Javelina batters with two walks and a HBP.
Maurice Martinez then lined one into left center field that brought in two Javelinas to take the lead back. Two more walks from Sul Ross then scored another, as
Vincent Sanchez would be credited with an RBI.
From there, the Javelinas were able to settle into the game and handle their business, three runs in the sixth thanks to RBI's from
Isaiah Aguilar and Carreon got brought the game to a five run lead, and an additional run from Martinez in the seventh made it a comfy six run lead.
The Lobos furiously tried to rally back, getting a run back in the eighth before sending one deep over the left field wall to get the game within three runs in the ninth.
Ruben Rendon IIIÂ finished them off however, and sealed the win for the Hogs.
