Lubbock, TX - Texas A&M-Kingsville enters the final five series of the season starting with a four-game series against Lubbock Christian University at Hays Field.
The Javelinas (19-11, 18-10 LSC) currently hold the fifth spot in the Lone Star Conference regular season standing with five series left of their schedule. First on deck for the Hogs is a dangerous Chaparrals (16-10, 15-9 LSC) team that sits just behind the Hogs in the LSC rankings at the number six spot.
In the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association South-Central region rankings however, the Chaps sit a spot just above the Javelinas. LCU currently holds the seventh spot in the rankings while Texas A&M-Kingsville sits in the eight spot.
A huge contributing factor for what has propelled the Chaps to their current NCBWA seed is their high powered offense. LCU boasts the second overall team average in the LSC, while leading the conference in homeruns with a ridiculous 43 homers. However, the Chaps rely on those bats to get them around the bases, sitting at the bottom of the conference in stolen bases and stolen base attempts while the Javelinas sit third in that category.
Where the Hogs might find their advantages is with the pitching staff. Texas A&M-Kingsville sits with the third best team-ERA in the conference with a 4.60 ERA while leading the conference in total strikeouts with 223. Batters have not found much success even getting on base against the Hogs, as the pitching staff has held batters to a .263 average this season.
Friday's game is set for 6:00 p.m. CST first pitch from Hays Field. Fans of the Javelinas can watch the series live on FloCollege or follow the games at JavelinaBSB on Twitter.
