Javelinas shutdown Lobos, get series win at home

Kingsville - Texas A&M-Kingsville took the series victory from Sul Ross State with two dominant performances Saturday at Nolan Ryan Field.

The Javelinas (12-9, 11-8 LSC) won both games of the double-header against the lobos (2-17, 2-17 LSC), 15-0 and 8-2. Masterful pitching in both games from Ulises Quiroga and Gabriel LeBlanc were the key for the Javelinas as they took the series win over Sul Ross.

Quiroga was especially dominant in his second home start of the season. The UTSA transfer stuck out a career-best 13 batters on his way to a complete-game shutout, his second of the season. Quiroga's 13 strikeouts are the current high-mark in the LSC and was the first 10-plus strikeout game by a Javelina since Colton Taylor struck out 10 against St. Mary's in the 2023 season (Apr. 1).

In game two of the double-header, Leblanc was called up to start on the mound for the Javelinas. The Sophomore from Nacagdoches tossed a season-high five strikeouts in six innings of work, five of which were shutout innings, to lead the Javelinas to a game three victory.

Not to be outdone by the pitchers, Elijia West had himself a busy afternoon against the Lobos. The transfer from Frank Phillips College played both DH and 1B this afternoon, and went off for five hits, four RBI's and a double to power the Javelina offense. West also stole a ridiculous six bases, including five in the first game, to increase his total stolen base count to 16 on 16 attempts.

As a whole, the offense for the Javelinas finally found its rhythm again. 11 different Javelinas all knocked hits this game, including the first hit of the season for Cian Garza. The Hogs racked up 18 RBI's across the double-header today as well as 10 extra base hits.

Get-away day for the Javelinas is set for Sunday at 1:00 p.m. CST. Fans of the Javelinas can watch live on FloCollege or follow live coverage at JavelinaBSB on Twitter.
