Box Score 2 iaLawton, TX - Texas A&M-Kingsville split Saturday's double-header games against Cameron and will look to take the series win on Sunday.
The Javelinas (3-4, 3-4 LSC) fell in the first game in the double-header 2-3 before bouncing back in the second game with a 6-3 victory against the Aggies (3-4, 3-4 LSC).
Tyler Schumann was on the mound for game one and
Karson Shepherd was called to start in game two.
In the first game, it was a pitchers duel for most of the game. Schumann would ultimately receive the loss, but he did pitch five innings, surrendering three hits and notching two strikeouts. Texas A&M-Kingsville struck first offensively in this game after a SAC RBI from
Vincent Sanchez brought
Joshua Endo home.Â
Cameron answered quickly however, notching their own SAC RBI after a triple got them in scoring position. Neither team got their offense going again until the fourth however, as it would take another Sanchez RBI to break the one-run tie.
That would be all the Javelina offense could get going however, as the Aggies tied it up in the bottom of the fourth and eventually walked it off in the seventh with a two-out RBI single.
Game two of the double-header did not start much better for the Hogs, as Cameron grabbed three hits and scored two runs to get the early lead. Texas A&M-Kingsville knotted the game up quickly however, as
Jeremy Cavazos' SAC RBI got
Nick Reyes home, then another SAC RBI from Endo brought Damien Carreon home to even up the game.
The third inning was where the Javelinas blew the game open, as a
Jacob Cueva single advanced
Vincent Sanchez to second base, then
Elijia West brought Sanchez home with a single. West would then steal second as Cueva ran to score, then West stole third, then eventually West would steal home to give the Javelinas a 5-2 lead.
Cameron and Texas A&M-Kingsville would add one run each in the fourth and sixth innings respectively. With
Ulises Quiroga called to the mound in the sixth inning for the Hogs. Needing to protect a three-run lead, Quiroga handled the next six batters with ease, racking up five strikeouts and earning the save in game three.
Texas A&M-Kingsville looks to secure the series win tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. CST from McCord Field. Fans of the Javelinas can watch live on FloCollege or follow live coverage at JavelinaBSB on Twitter.
