Lawton, OK - Texas A&M-Kingsville racked up 16 hits and finished with four shutout innings to take game one against Cameron, 13-9, Friday at McCord Field.
The Javelinas (2-3, 2-3 LSC) tallied five doubles, two Home runs and 11 RBI's to finish in double-digits for the first time this season. Texas A&M-Kingsville also shut-out the Aggies (2-3, 2-3 LSC) in the final four innings of the game thanks to
Gabriel LeBlanc and
Daniel Cardona.
Jessie Moreno started on the mound for the Javelinas, earning his first win of the season while going 3.2 innings. He gave up three runs on seven hits with three strikeouts but put the Javelinas in a position to get an early lead this game.
The scoring got started for the Javelinas in the top of the second, where
Elijia West would score on a passed ball by Cameron after singling up the middle and stealing second base. It would not be until the third inning where the Javelinas really did their damage. Three straight doubles from
Isaiah Aguilar,
Vincent Sanchez and
Jacob Cueva would get another run on the board.
Landon Salinas would SAC RBI to bring Sanchez home, then West would mash the Javelina's first home run of the season scoring two runs and making it a 5-1 game.
After Cameron's offense sputtered in the third, the Javelinas pounced on the Aggies once again, this time with
Joshua Endo bringing
Maurice Martinez home with an RBI double. Aguilar would bring Endo home with an RBI single, and the Javelinas were in complete control of the game heading into the fourth.
Cameron was able to inch closer in the bottom of the fourth with two runs, but Texas A&M-Kingsville answered right back with a two RBI single from
Jayden Martinez to bring the score to 9-3. However, the flood gates opened for the Aggies in the fifth, as two RBI singles and a grand slam evened the game up at nine.
Needing the bats to step up to break the tie in the sixth, Aguilar would get on base after an error by the Aggie left fielder. Sanchez then came up huge for the Hogs, sending one deep over the wall to get the Javelinas back on top after the sixth. LeBlanc would only surrender a walk in the sixth heading into the final three frames.Â
Neither team got anything going in the seventh, however the Javelinas got back on track offensively in the eighth after the Aggies walked Martinez to bring in an insurance run and
Nick Reyes stole home to give the Javelinas a four-run cushion. Cardona then only let up one hit and one walk in the final two Aggie innings to seal the win for the Javelinas.
Games two and three are set for 1:00 and 4:00 p.m. CST from McCord Field. Fans of the Javelinas can watch live on FloCollege or follow live coverage at JavelinaBSB on Twitter.
