Kingsville - Texas A&M-Kingsville used an early barrage of runs to power itself to a 8-5 victory over Sul Ross State on Friday.
The Javelinas (10-9, 9-8 LSC) scored six runs between innings two through four to help propel them to a victory over the Lobos (2-15, 2-15 LSC).
Karson Shepherd would pick up the win for today's game while Tyler Schuman earned himself his second save of the season.
Inning number two saw the first three batters score for the Hogs, as
Jayden Martinez' SAC RBI would score Maurice Martinze to even up the game at one apiece. The Javelinas then got an excellent shot from
Sergio Galvan Jr. to bring home two more batters with a two-RBI double to left center field to retake the lead from Sul Ross.
The fireworks were just getting started however, as a
Vincent Sanchez double kicked off the third inning. Martinez would SAC Bunt to advance Sanchez to third, but he would not need to run very fast to get home.
Elijia West completely destroyed a ball that sent it sailing into left field for his second home run of the season and the first home run at Nolan Ryan Field this season.
Galvan was not through with the Lobos however, as he added another RBI to his name with an RBI-single that brought
Jayden Martinez home to increase the Javelinas lead to a commanding 6-1.
Late game drama was soon afoot however, as the Lobos would get the game within two thanks to three runs in the sixth and seventh inning. However, the Javelinas would give themselves a couple of insurance runs thanks to five straight walks from Sul Ross in the bottom of the seventh to make it an 8-4 game.
Neither offense got rolling in the eighth, as the Lobos were on their final breath for game one.
Tyler Schumann got the first two batters out with ease, but a solo home run would precede a loading of the bases for Sul Ross that put the game in jeopardy. Schumann handled the pressure well however, and got himself out of a jam to end the game.
Game two and three of the series against Sul Ross State is set for 2:00 p.m. CST start time. Fans of the Javelinas can watch on FloCollege or follow live coverage at JavelinaBSB on Twitter.
