Tyler - Texas A&M-Kingsville can not finish its comeback attempt against UT-Tyler as it fell, 3-5, Monday at Irwin Field.
The Javelinas (9-8, 8-8 LSC) were just two runs away in the top of the ninth from tying up the game against the Patriots (14-2, 14-2 LSC).
Nick Reyes singled through the right side as the lead-off hitter in the ninth, but he would be stranded on base as the Javelinas could not cash in during their final at-bats of the series.
For a majority of the game, the Javelinas trailed by three or-more scores after UT-Tyler put up runs in the fourth and fifth inning. Needing a spark in the offense in the top of the eighth,
Jacob Cueva was called in to pinch-hit and immediately singled up the middle the advanced
Landon Salinas to second after he walked.
Elijia West was then called to pinch hit as well, driving in Salinas for the first run of the inning.
Isaiah Aguilar then SAC-RBI to bring Cueva home as the Javelinas were just two runs away.
Tyler Schumann was called onto the mound late in the ball game and was dealing in his three innings pitched. The redshirt-freshman from Fulshear, Texas, allowed just one hit with two strikeouts and kept the Javelinas in the ballgame to its end.Â
The Hogs were able to keep themselves afloat for a majority of the contest after the Patriots scored two runs in the bottom of the first for an early lead.
Damian Carreon brought the first Javelina home with an RBI that got Reyes home. However the Javelinas were unable to capitalize on offense until late in the game, and dropped game four to the Patriots.Â
Texas A&M-Kingsville returns home to take on Texas A&M-International in a non-conference game at 6:00 p.m. CST. Fans of the Javelinas can watch live on FloCollege or follow live coverage at JavelinaBSB on Twitter.
